These classes are partly a culmination of many years worth of research into the exchange of ideas between Capoeira and contemporary dance, specifically the dynamic release technique. These two organic forms of movement have at their center a focus on nature, creativity, and improvisation, as well as an emphasis on spiral dynamic and the connection between body, mind and spirit. We will investigate ways to incorporate the total physical awareness necessary for Capoeira, whose roots partly lie in the art of fighting, into the more meditative world of release technique. Through Capoeira, I hope to open more opportunities for self expression within the medium of contemporary dance – using the quality and philosophy behind the movements as inspiration without direct imitation. This poetic playfulness and animalistic physicality will provide a new and exciting dimension for dancers, Capoeiristas and amateurs alike to explore.

The classes are very physical and dynamic, drawing from Sabrina’s background and experience as a professional dance artist and physical theatre performer.

The classes includes exercises that allow connecting of breath and body, improvisation, floor work, which is very enriched by the use of spirals, fast transitions to challenge coordination and stamina and a big influence of capoeira which is inspiring Sabrina’s work for seven years.

Those elements are fused into a practice that has a focus on grounding, efficiency, fluidity and connection through space and in and out of the floor.

MOVING IN MULTIPLICITY

with ALETHIA ANTONIA

Time Time

1-4pm

Date Date
TBC

£25 Early Bird 17th October/ £30 thereafter

Alethia will lead a highly physical workshop that draws from various movement styles and practices to explore multiplicity in physicality, musicality, dynamics, and flow.

To begin, participants will be led through movement patterns and improvisational exploration to develop awareness, strength, and mobility through the whole body, to encourage flow and dynamic shifts through more complex movements. The workshop will build into set standing, travelling, and floor work material, and will end with working with these various elements through an accumulative phrase.

Throughout, Alethia will encourage participants to keep aware of their own individuality; using given material as a framework to develop their own way of moving, and explore different movement possibilities to incorporate into their own practice.
