The workshop will focus on how improvisation tasks can be used as a mechanism for learning, or applying movement qualities, to set material. Our workshops and classes are divided into improvisation and set crossings/material, we may also look into compositional tasks and share information about how the two of us devise movement material.

We will begin with mobilisation tasks, in the first half of the session we will explore how to contrast isolations and continuous consequential movement through improvisations. We will look for new pathways and rhythms and investigate tension as a means of expression.

The second half will focus on crossings aimed to develop the vocabulary available, offering ways in and out of the floor and exploring our connection to gravity, as well as set phrases aimed to develop this understanding of how we move.

THIS WORKSHOP IS NON-REFUNDABLE

When booking for a Workshop please note that we can only provide a full refund
(less £10 admin fee) for cancellations made more than 28 days before the start date.

Once you have committed to a course or workshop it is your responsibility to attend the scheduled number of sessions.

In the ‘Energy and Flow’ class we will start by discovering and developing our personal way of moving through improvisation and guided tasks and will then move onto set choreographic material based on floor work technique.
We will work towards awaking body connections in order to play with the quantity and quality of our energy to find the flow in our movement. We will practice body totality, presence as well as developing our strength.
This workshop challenges the physicality of the body, as well as the exploration of rhythms and speed. We aim to find efficiency in movement, especially in moving in and out of the earth, clarity and details. Expression and creativity are key points in our work, as well as the connection with the group and the ideas of self and togetherness. And most of all, in this workshop we want to rediscover one of the most amazing things: the joy and passion of dance itself!

This movement research practice is focused on presence, physicality, and spontaneity with both an individual and collective focus. We will approach our bodies as subterranean spaces with boundless potential for self-discovery, adaptability, and imagining. Allowing our bodies to react on their own impulses, instinctually awakening each sense as we begin to approach our body and those around us with an alertness to react instantaneously, without judgement, ego, or over-rationalization. From these heightened states, we move through space, bodies, landscapes, boundaries, and borders. Inside this research, we discover the depth and potential of our physicality. Physicality built out of instinct, necessity, and spontaneity. Together and individually we will go far beyond our perceived borders, pulsating as one, alive in every cell of our body, in a timeless space. We will return to instincts, the cyclical, irrationality, and disorder. We will unlock the complex architectures, the vibrating energy, emerging together in a shared ecosystem of space, bodies, sound, and the other. The class includes improvisation, movement puzzles, movement taking us in and out of the floor, as well as some phrase work.
