Joel has been working with Karl intermittently for the past few years, creating a trilogy of works entitled In Loving Memory. Their combined practice stems from physical theatre, clowning, flying low and passing through technique, improvisation, release, and… singing.
Their class, contact/non-contact, is inspired by their desire to communicate through touch over the past year (or so). The class works with objects between bodies- allowing individuals to safely explore resistance and connection whilst moving collectively through space. Throughout the class Joel and Karl will drift between improvisation and set material (inspired by their different areas of expertise). This will allow for independent decision making and accidental encounters.

Joel has worked as a performer for a range of internationally renowned companies such as Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal, Luca Silvistrini’s Protein, Ben Wright’s BGROUP and Hagit Yakira Dance. As a choreographer he has performed his own work at a variety of established venues both in the UK and abroad, such as Sadler’s Wells, The Place, and L’Escaut (Brussels). He was also commissioned to create a dance film work for Ballet Boyz in 2020, which was premiered earlier this year. Joel’s company will be touring a triple bill of works entitled In Loving Memory, to London and Brighton in January 2022.
Karl William Fagerlund Brekke studied at Sceneingangen, Copenhagen, before moving to London and training at both London Studio Centre and later Rambert School. Since graduating he has worked for prestigious performance artists such as Sally Marie, Arthur Pita, Russell Maliphant, Simon McBurney, Lea Tirabasso, and Leila McMillan.

Michael teaches a dynamic and energetic class focusing on floor-work techniques, moving in and out of the floor with ease and fluidity, with a focus on integrating acrobatics and hand balance.
The class begins with a gentle warm up crossing the space, slowly building skills from the floor up, transitioning into acrobatic skills and then culminating in a sequence aimed to help participants learn to use momentum and fluidity rather than muscular force. Michael uses elements of breakdance, acrobatics, capoeira and martial arts in his class and will touch upon each of these during the duration of my class.

Michael graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2012 where he performed works by Janice Garret, Richard Alston and Rick Nodine.
Since graduating Michael has performed extensively both nationally and internationally with James Wilton Dance, Rosie Kay Dance, Tom Dale Dance Company and Autin Dance Theatre. He is interested in floorwork, acrobatics, breakdance and yoga and uses all of these to influence a coherent style.
Michael is a passionate teacher and has taught a variety of workshops around the country representing James Wilton Dance and Autin Dance Theatre and is currently investigating and developing his own methodology for movement.
