Trip the light – Make Movement Matter

Trip the light – Make Movement Matter

Join us for a joyful, raw and work-in-progress evening peppered with audience interaction and featuring three of our autumn season’s Resident artists and one additional guest investigating the links between dance enquiry and scientific knowledge. Spanning from dream states to elasticity and recovery, from soil to human anatomy each artists has used their own scientific interest as a point of departure for creativity… come check out what’s been cooking under the TRIPSPACE arches!

KIP JOHNSON
Working Title : Sewing with Soil

During his time in residency Kip brought together soil and dance to explore, through movement, the intrinsic entanglement of human and natural systems. How does soil link our individual bodies with a wider community body? What commonalities can be found in soil health and community health? What similar processes are happening? How can we see decay as generative within society? What would embracing decay in the body look like?

MARIE CHABERT
Striking Chords

Striking chords weaves the fabric between the poetic, the somatic and the performative by exploring fascial awareness and biotensegrity in dance.
In particular, we attend to the body and inter-bodies’ relationships as living architectures following the laws of tensegrity, such as seeing the body and the composition of bodies in space as compression elements floating in continuous tension.
Through redefining our understanding of biomechanics as a holistic interdependent system able to adapt and differentiate depending on its use, we redefine and question our position in the world, our roles and identities amongst a group of individuals.

MARC STEVENSON
Working Title: In the hands of time

How do we relax ?
Part of Make Movement Matter recent residencies at Tripspace, Marc’s research explored themes of elasticity, resilience and recovery.
Drawing from an analogy between layers and plasticity of fascia and facets and complexity of personality, this dance and music work investigates concepts of adaptability, sensing-tivity and our potential for relaxation.

CHING YING CHIEN
Working title: The Moon Upon a Stick

While in residency Ching Ying Chien has researched the territories of the abstract/ surreal/ dream state. She has explored and analysed the physiological and psychological changes experienced as she embodies fluctuation in physical elasticity, tension and texture to create character-transformation, illusion and small/micro spaces to reflect the big surrounding world.
